Providers

Dr. Joy Jang, PT, PhD

Dr. Jang integrates pelvic health therapy, neuromuscular re-education, trauma-informed practice, manual therapy, and functional movement retraining to provide high-level rehabilitative care for women, men, and gender-diverse patients.

Her clinical philosophy emphasizes:
✔ identifying root-cause mechanisms
✔ treating the body as an integrated system
✔ supporting nervous-system regulation
✔ restoring functional independence

Dr. Hyoungjoon Kim, PT, DPT

Dr. Hyoungjoon Kim is a physical therapist with a dedicated clinical focus on men’s pelvic health and complex pelvic floor dysfunction in New York City. His work centers on helping men experiencing pelvic pain, urinary dysfunction, bowel dysfunction, sexual performance–related pelvic muscular issues, and movement-related pelvic floor disorders regain comfort, confidence, and physical function.

Over the course of his clinical practice, Dr. Kim recognized how often men suffer in silence with pelvic symptoms — unsure where to seek help, and sometimes unsure how to even describe what they are experiencing. This gap in care shaped his professional mission:
to provide clinically grounded, respectful, and accessible pelvic rehabilitation specifically for men.

His treatment approach integrates:
✔ neuromuscular re-education
✔ pelvic floor retraining
✔ movement and postural optimization
✔ nervous-system aware pain education and breathing mechanics

Our Treatment Philosophy

Root-Cause Identification

We evaluate posture, breathing, movement mechanics, neuromotor control, pelvic floor function, and lifestyle contributors to determine the underlying drivers of your condition.

Integrated Whole-Body Care

Pelvic function relies on coordinated trunk, diaphragm, hip, and spinal mechanics — therefore treatment addresses these systems together for optimal outcomes.

Sustainable, Functional Recovery

Our goal is long-term restoration of continence, comfort, and functional movement, rather than temporary symptom relief.

How does physical therapy help pelvic pain?

Physical therapy treatments, such as pelvic floor rehabilitation and accompanying methods, have been proven to treat a variety of conditions resulting in pelvic pain. Some of the most common pelvic conditions that physical therapy treats include:

While these are just a few of the most common conditions of pelvic dysfunction that can be treated with physical therapy, there are a number of additional pelvic conditions that PT treatments can relieve. For example, painful intercourse and infertility problems may also be improved with pelvic therapy. Some less common conditions that can be treated also include pelvic organ prolapse, dyspareunia, and diastasis recti.

How will I benefit?

The muscles, tendons, and ligaments that comprise the pelvic floor all serve an extremely important purpose, as they support the core of your body. One of our highly trained physical therapists in Midtown East and Penn Plaza, NY can help relieve your pelvic pain, improving your flexibility, and increasing your overall functionality.

The treatments involved in your pelvic floor rehabilitation plan will be dependent upon the results of your initial assessment. Your injury or condition will be evaluated during a physical examination, and then a qualified physical therapist will form a treatment plan that will address your specific needs. This will typically include several forms of exercise and massage to reduce pain, lessen symptoms, and potentially heal your condition.

Our Midtown East and Penn Plaza, NY physical therapy clinics are equipped with the resources necessary for treating all forms of pelvic pain. In many cases, our treatment methods can help provide relief and recovery for problems that patients have been facing for years. If your pelvic pain is limiting you, contact Balance in Motion Physical Therapy today to begin your path toward long-lasting relief!
